If you used the standard install for AVG, it often helps to uninstall it,
then do
a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that scans email.

If you used to have a Norton or McAfee antivirus program, their uninstall
programs don't always remove the parts of the programs that tend to cause
problems in Windows Mail, so if you need the cleanup program for one of
these, let us know which one.
If you get any error messages when you try to receive mail, right click on
them and copy them to your next message.
