Hi,
I deleted all of my temporary internet files, cookies and passwords. Now I
can finally access Microsoft.com, CodePlex.com and my personal website.
So apparently it was the temporary files all along that was causing my
internet connectivity issues. (Thanks to my ISP for forcing me to try
deleting them even though I assumed that it wouldn't have any effect
However, I cannot log in and view any pages in CodePlex.com or my personal
website. When I try, pages take several minutes to load or, in most cases,
never load at all. Deleting the temporary stuff again and restarting IE7
allows me to view these websites, but not while I'm logged in. I was able
to successfully log in to iGoogle and MSDN forums though, but it took a few
_minutes_ in each before the page loaded after I submitted my credentials.
I tried with Firefox and Opera and the results were the same, although Opera
didn't seem to be as affected - it still takes over a minute, at least, just
to see any web page while I'm logged in to the site, but CodePlex does work
eventually if I'm patient. The amount of delay is certainly not reasonable
though, so just using Opera instead of IE7 is not an acceptable solution.
As a test, I booted up a Virtual PC that is running XP. I then browsed to
my personal website and logged in using IE6. I was returned to the main
page immediately and I could access all of my protected content. Therefore,
it's not my internet connection and it's not my personal website that is
causing the log in problem.
Then, back on the Vista computer with SP1 (which is hosting the VPC), I
tried the same thing and I still couldn't even log in. After several
attempts I was able to log in, but I still can't access any other pages on
my website while I'm logged in. As a matter of fact, I can't even access
any webpage to log out. Clearing my cookies allows me to access the pages
on my website again, but obviously I'm no longer logged in - which is a
major problem.
After several more failed attempts in Vista I tried again on the VPC and it
still worked fine - I was able to log in and view other pages on my website,
just like before.
I don't know what else to attribute this problem to other than SP1. IE7 was
working fine an hour before the installation completed.
Is it possible to uninstall SP1? I'd like to make sure that it is in fact
causing the problem and then, I guess, wait for SP2 :|
