Another alternative to the MS Excel viewer or OpenOffice is Google Docs.
Only works with Excel 97-2003 docs (files with .xls extension) and not with
Excel 2007 docs (files with .xlsx extension). Won't do charts either.

So... if the spreadsheet you want to view is fairly simple, you could use
Google Docs to view it without having to install a viewer or OpenOffice.
(Although you would have to create a free Google account...) If the
spreadsheet is more complex, then you may have to go with the viewer or
OpenOffice.
