Ron,
Setting up a dummy or valid pop3 account yields:
-Leave a copy of messages on server is checked,
-remove from server after 5 days is not checked(5 is the default days though grayed out since not checked). It also doesn't matter
whether a limit is set prior in another account, 5 is the default on an account creation.
- remove from server when deleted from Deleted Items is checked.

Correct, OE did not leave a copy by default.
