It only applies to 1 % of the population -- may be less than that. | | | | | On those occasions where an update causes problems on some systems,
you have the option of implementing a workaround rather than the faulty
update. Indeed, the recommendation is meant 'for most people' because
they aren't expected to know how to implement workarounds - and the
assumption is that updates won't be faulty.
IIRC history has proven otherwise. | |

Ordinarily I do not allow myself to get into "debate". However, I am disturbed by the people who claim themselves "with the clue" and those who are "in the tech industry". For those people, they can do whatever they want.
I am talking about the vast majority of "common" computer users, such as myself. They can't tell one update from another, even if they are given articles to read about the updates in question. So, what's the rule of thumb? We read it, we don't understand it, and therefore we don't "jump" ? Or do we flood the various forums and ask " what is that , and that and that and that ---"??
Lastly, what makes anyone deduce that updates are faulty ? How about the computer is faulty and therefore in conflict with the updates ?? We have problems with some updates after installing SP1. Which is at fault? SP1 or Updates ?? Furthermore, if there were faulty updates in the past, how long ago? You are going to quarantine the entire ship because one crew member sneezed ?
Those of you "with the clue" and "in the tech industry", you know more than we can hope for in our life time. But don't tell us not to do auto updating. Tell Microsoft--- if you believe you know more than they do.
This is my last entry. You won't hear from me again on this issue.
