Sounds like this is a common problem with Vista and Thief 3.

The thread here is a website dedicated to Looking Glass games like Thief
series, and System Shock. More than likely the suggestions here will fix
whatever problem you may be experiencing.
Thief came out long before Vista so there are bound to be problems. Try
some of the suggestions on this site for Thief 3 and Vista, respond to
this thread if nothing helps, and explain what you tried to get the game
to work so we don't offer repeat advice.
