Remote client can't get reconnected to my library I've been using Foldershare for months to share family photos with my
elderly father over the Internet. Today he called to say he had
stopped receiving my files (due to a problem a week ago on my end), so
I tried to walk him through diagnosing Foldershare over the phone.
After trying a few things unsuccessfully, I finally had him completely
uninstall Foldershare and then download and reinstall it from the web
page, to make sure he has the current version. It installed OK and
the icon appeared in his system tray, saying he was Online.
Next I tried sending him another "invitation" to rejoin my library.
Foldershare refused to allow me to send one. Each time I removed him
from the list of members and then told the dialog to invite him again,
it simply added his email address back onto the list and did nothing
else. It apparently refused to send an email because it already
thought he was a member. (This looks like a bug to me.)
To get past this problem I eventually figures out I had to remove ALL
of the users from my library and then input ALL of their email
addresses again. This time it sent an email to everybody (even though
I was only trying to fix one person's problems).
My father used the button in the email he received to go to
Foldershare's web site, and like I had hoped it showed my library
name, the number of files in it, and so on. But under the heading
"Your computers connected to this library" my father's web page said
"You don't have any computers synchronizing with this library." He
clicked "Synch with a new computer", but then Foldershare said "You
don't have Foldershare installed on any computers yet.....". This
makes no sense, as he has the software installed on his system. The
Foldershare icon appears in the System Tray just as expected.
So no matter what we tried, he has been unable to reconnect my library
to the folder on his hard drive. And I'm stumped.
Why is Foldershare being so stubborn? What can I do to get him set up
again? What procedure should remote users use if they need to
reconnect to another person's library? Is there a way to do this
without having to send them another invite email?
Thanks,
Jon
