I am running XP, here is everything I know that might be pertinent
Is there an association for .eml files. It should be associated with
Internet E-Mail Message and show Opens with Windows Live Mail
The command for open should be something like (between the
shes) -"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /eml:%1-
Make sure the association works. Assuming you are using the default
location then your emails are in folders within "C:\Documents and
Settings\<your user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows
Live Mail" folder - they will have names you recognise (email account names,
Storage Folders etc) - double click on an .eml file in one of those folders
and you should see it in a WLM message window.
If that works and .elm attachments don't, save one of the attachments to
your desktop and double click it. If that works and double clicking on it
in the mailing list attachment doesn't then WLM has a problem.
I am guessing that the mail with the eml attachments(s) comes from a mailing
list - it is possible that you can assess that mailing list in another, and
IMO, better manner - many mailing lists are archived as Newsgroups, in which
case you need to to know which server they are on - one such is
news,gmane.org, its an open server and is fairly quick, the relationship
between the mailing list and the newsgroup names is sometimes less than
obvious, but not to the extent of absurdity. Have a look to see if your
mailing list is on there, because it is the archive you can look back in
time and you can search the archive (only the headers unless you download
all the bodies too). If you find your mailing list archive as a News Group
then you might want consider to unsubscribing from the mailing list in
preference of using the newsgroup.
