I've just spent the last few hours futilely trying to add the native 'Windows
desktop search' to either my taskbar, or the sidebar as a gadget - but to no
avail.

Does anyone have any idea how to provide this obvious piece of ergonomics &
functionality?

I'm VERY suprised that this isn't an 'easy' thing to do...

Ben
Hi Ben,

This tutorial will show you how to create a Search shortcut that you can then place in Quick Launch on the taskbar.

Search Desktop Shortcut

I hope this helps you,
