Hi,
Thanks for that tip. Having read the link below, I've now worked out what
you have to do, in order not to have messages purged as soon as they are
deleted.
Enabling Correct IMAP Delete Functionality in Windows Mail:
1) In Tools->Options->Advanced Tab: Uncheck 'Use Deleted Items folder with
IMAP accounts
2) In View->Current View sub-menu, there is now the menu item: ''Show
Deleted Items". If that is checked, all deleted items now appear in the
IMAP Inbox with a line through them, otherwise they are hidden.
3) In the Edit menu, there are are now 2 new items: 'Undelete' and 'Purge
Deleted Message'. Choose the latter to purge any deleted any messages from
the inbox.
This is the functionality I was originally looking for.
BTW, I cannot get the above to work in Windows Live Mail!!!
So I recommend Windows Mail, rather than Windows Live Mail, for IMAP
accounts.
If you select 'Tools->Options->Advanced Tab->Use Deleted Items folder with
IMAP accounts', this does not actually move any deleted messages to the
Deleted Items folder.
I guess I'm now the Windows Mail IMAP expert!!!
BTW, I would recommend IMAP over POP3 email any day (assuming you have a
mail client that supports IMAP properly!). It's especially good if you want
to check your personal email on multiple computers (e.g. at work and at
home) and ensure they are all synchronised (you don't get this with POP3).
