Hi, Zach, and welcome to the forums.

You might try Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to remove your currently installed drivers, and then try installing the latest version only....

Download the Driver Sweeper package, and install it.
Reboot into Safe Mode
Run Driver Sweeper and select teh Realtek Audio drivers for removal.
Remove them
Reboot and allow to normally boot into Vista
Install the R1.96 drivers.

See if this method allows for hte driver to work correctly.
