Thanks for that tip Winston, I had not considered that since I always use the same ID to sign in to WL through WLMail.

I also forgot to mention that there is a registry edit that can be used whilst WLMail and WLMessenger are open and 'signed in' with the same Windows Live ID, that will break the integration between them and so cause the e-mail icon in WLMessenger to open the Web browser to the associated Hotmail account:

Open regedit (Start [button]->Run...->regedit [typed]->OK [button])
Browse to the Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Communications Clients\Shared
Double-click on the the Value named 'Mail Primary Account'
Delete the Value data (which will be the Windows Live ID) for that Value.
