I ran into the same problem.
Like me, I'm assuming you backed up to a sub-directory on your external drive.
The restore program, in all it's wisdom
will only check the root directory.
The only way to get to the backup files is to share your external drive and get to it via a network share.
Then it will allow you to go to the sub-directory where you files are located.
