It's pretty obvious to me now that you never bothered reading through my original post. Both of your one-line replies refer to steps I've covered more than once.

I also don't understand how you can't bother going into detail with this issue. It's not as if Windows Vista x64 is the first operating system I've ever used with my PC. I've been using Windows 3.1 -->95--->98--->XP--->Vista for about a decade now and I think I've shown in my original post that I'm well aware of how drivers and codecs affect the OS.

I was as thorough as possible trying to narrow down the issue to the registry and/or installation preferences.
Please read through my original post more carefully and try to hint at a possible solution, otherwise you may lock/delete this thread with my thanks for your time and effort.
you're right, and my apologies.

I am assuming you removed *both* QT and iTunes, so the next step would be to remove *all* of it - QT, iTunes, codecs, *and* audio drivers - then start from scratch.

By that I mean perform a SFC /SCANNOW to see if either of those updates modified / replaced a critical Windows Vista related file, specifically some sort of native codec, that might have disabled sound out of your system.
