Document change notification

Is there way to get automatic email/other notifcation if a document in shared
folder changes? Example: I'm sharing spreadsheet with colleague, I make
changes they need to know about. Is there way that saving the change
automatically notifies them that change made? At present I have to email them
to tell them to go look.
