Re: interactive services dialog detection

Well, I succeeded to get the issue elevated pretty high up at HP Tech Support (the group in Missouri), but still no solid answer. They cannot seem to determine what it means to the computer system to disable “recover services for windows.” Very disappointed with HP tech support (and the group in India completely wrecked the first computer after taking control).

Here are my conclusions:

1.The best interim solution is Drumtrucker’s – namely, to use msconfig to disable the service called “recovery service for windows.” (Renaming the file might get rid of the error message, but it slows start-up as the system searches for BLService.exe.)

2.The post setting forth the SoftThinks tech support response is interesting, but seems illogical. BLService.exe would not seem to have anything whatsoever to do with Bitlocker given that (a) our problems are occurring on machines (I believe all HP notebooks) running Vista Home Premium, which does not have Bitlocker capability and (b) I happen have a different computer, an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Ultimate, which DOES have Bitlocker capability, but does NOT have the BLService.exe file and does NOT have a service called “recovery service for windows.” In other words, the file and service at the root of our problem seem to be unrelated to Bitlocker, but are something that HP put on its notebook computers running HP Home Premium (which is why it is so frustrating the HP tech support cannot find out what is going on).

3.This scenario should mean something to someone: The runtime error message (relating to BLService.exe) first arose on our HP notebook PC (tx2510us) after installing the HP Photosmart C4385; the error went away after uninstalling the printer; came back after installing the printer a second time. So we got ride of the HP printer and installed a Canon Pixima M470, and got the error as soon as the printer was installed. One thing in common to both printers (if I remember the HP correctly), is that they both install Nuance’s OmniPage software (as they are both multifunction machines). Does anyone have similar or different experience? Maybe if we can put enough clues on the internet, the HP tech support will eventually figure this out.
