Re: Save before reinstall and restore after reinstall-Vista Ultimate and WLM

I can't say for sure. None of my contacts use the birthday field.

Gary,
I may be using the commercial product.

Do you know if the commercial product will save and restore all of the contact fields? What prompts this question is that I did a save of my contact info in .csv format and upon examining the result in Excel and discovered that the "Birthday" field and no doubt others were missing.

In fact, on the list of fields which can be selected for the .csv file, "Birthday" is missing. I haven't done a check to see what all is missing but that one thing alone is a killer for me.

If the commercial product will truly save and restore all fields, then I'm forced to use it since Live Mail doesn't save all fields

Have I overlooked something or is this a "feature" of Live Mail?

I've used the commercial product several times and have had good success with it.

Gary,
Thanks. Actually the procedure described in the blog is the procedure which I had planned to use. The procedure is brute force. I may use both the brute force method and the product you mentioned. That is, I'll hold the results of the brute force method in reserve in case the commercial product has problems. Using Vista Ultimate makes one leery and weary.

That commercial product is good for a 20 day free trial.

Backing up and restoring everything associated with WLM is quite tedious.
Have a look at this article:

Gary,
Many thanks. Appears to be an excellent product.

Is there somewhere a write-up on a do-it-yourself backup with a $0 cost?

Good People,
I will be completely reinstalling all software on a laptop running Vista Ultimate, MS Office Professional and WLM.

How can I save all WLM settings, folders, files, messages, accounts, etc so that after the reinstall I can restore WLM just as if nothing had ever happened?

Motivation behind reinstall is due to unsolvable and unresolveable Vista problems and not due to WLM problems.

Is there is a MSKB or how-to that is applicable?

Thanks,
Karl
