Nigel,

I have only seen this stop error (rather similar to this one) that was
idicitative of bad hardware, but typically with Vista the onboard controller
for the power savings is set to EAC which seems to play holy heck with Vista
installs. From your system BIOS change your power savings to either ASPI or
ASAPI.

Worked on my HP workstation.
