The stock answer is no, your host system would not be infected. That
assumes a self-contained virtual pc on your host system.

The reality depends on the virus' manner of replication. (I doubt that
spyware would be a concern).

If you used shared networking or shared folders the virus could spread
through transferred files for example. Or possibly through networked
system interface, though I could not speak to that.

Consider this too, one of the popular virus replication methods is to send
themselves in emails. You could send -- or have silently sent -- an email
from your virtual machine that you then received in your host machine.
That could spread it from the VPC to the Host.
