more info on this....
once the error occurs, I can actually go through Windows Explorer and connect to another machine using
\\ipadress\share but not
\\machinename\share even though I can go to a command prompt and ping the machinename and get the ip address and ping -a the ip address and get the machine name. It seems to be happening pretty much every day now.
Getting closer to "upgrading" to XP....
