i had the same problem when installing a driver for the 8400 GS, after the microsoft loading bar, it goes blank for about 10 to 20 seconds then loads the loggon screen.. i done a system restore to the previous driver, and then downloaded the new one from nvidia website (using the automatic driver searching tool) and then installed it with ADMIN privillages. i then restarted and it done the same, followed by another restart and the same happend.. but then after that, all the probs seemed to vanish for me
not sure if you have tried what i have but it worth a shot if you havent
