Common practice is to clear the CMOS when changing memory. I have seen issues all the way from no POST to errors in Windows if CMOS isn't cleared, and Optimized Defaults loaded, then tweaks done. If you can't clear the CMOS, then your machine may nt be capable of being upgraded. I know there are plenty of folks out there that will think, horse pucky. I've never had to clear the CMOS, and I don't have problems. They are right, however, they are playing the odds. Ignorance is bliss, until something goes wrong. If you can clear the CMOS, then you might as well try it. If you are not comfortable making changes in the BIOS, then leave it alone and try other things. Either way, good luck. I know from plenty of personal experiene how frustrating it can be getting our new upgrades to settle down and work.
