With a new system, and the way you described the situation, and your boyfriend’s lack of knowledge, why not have him take it back to where it was bought and have them work on it. Isn't it still under warranty? It’d be a lot easier than trying to explain third party what’s going on with his computer when you’re 2000 miles away.
