Try selecting "Use newsgroup Communities support features" on the
[Tools >] Options General tab. This is supposed to do what you ask
if you're signed in to WLMail with the Live ID you use when posting
on the web. It's not fault free.

Not that I know of. It's been like that for years, using IE7 at any
rate.
Stick to posting via WLMail - it's much more efficient.
