I had the same problem.. Not sure how I fixed it, but this is what I did... I was trying to install Vista Service Pack 1 and due to errors, had to run the System Update Recovery Tool, then installed SP1. Lost my mouse, so I backed it off, my pst file was corrupted, so I had to run the scan pst. After that, I restarted Outlook and it is now working fine. Don't really know what fixed it, but I'm glad it back.
