i have had computer for 2 months now, think i need to get someone in who knows what they are doing until i get this sussed out.
Windows usually just has a driver that works fine for cdroms. I would recommend running a virus scan if you havent already. I have a newer acer notebook myself what model is it??? I have been on the acer site a few times and can look as well.

Possibly try a repair. When booting hit f8 a few times then

choose command prompt
Then type in the blinking cursor-

chkdsk /r

It may repair the driver. Otherwise try this

Go to device manager

then click on the dvd rom

then driver tab of the dvd rom.

Then choose roll back driver.

That may help.
