Re: Vista/Nero

It is some time since I installed these so think of what follows an approach
to the problem rather than infallible instructions!

Run the Nero cleaning utility.
Reboot in safe mode and run the cleaning utility again.
Click on the Start Orb and search for lurking Nero files and folders and
remove them. Be sure not to damage your installation files though!
Create a restore point.
Run regedit and search for Nero entries (use F3 to repeat) and delete them
from your registry but be careful! If you mess up go back to your restore
point.
Reboot and to reduce the amount of stuff running, run Autoruns and select
the Logon Tab and uncheck the items under C:\Users\ and under HKCU...\Run
(and HKCU...\RunOnce) along with anything else you know you don't really
need.
Reboot and install Nero. It is a vast bloated utility and I suggest you do a
custom install and cut out most of its 16 or so components. I only install
one of them, Nero Burning Rom.
Reboot and test and then run Autoruns and check the items previously
unchecked.

If all you want to do is burn disks consider freeware CDBurnerXP which is
just 3 MB and (despite its name) runs under Vista. From (for example)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-...Pro-beta.shtml
and also (again despite of its name) burns DVDs.

It's not quite as slick as Nero but does the job nicely. I keep it installed
as a standby.

Good luck - Doug
