| Guest | Suggestion: Vertical Maximize With wide-screen displays becoming standard I would like to request a feature that lets me maximize a window vertically only. This is very useful when trying to have 2 browser windows open next to each other for comparison. Also generally, when working with Word or Excel it doesn't make sense for the App to stretch all across my glorious high-res widescreen monitor and have a very large unused space in the case of word to the left and right of my document. Ditto for non-stretchy websites. It could be implemented via... 1) a new 'Vertical Maximize' option when right-clicking on an application task pane button (not sure what the official name is) - current options are: Restore, Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize, Close. 2) when clicking on the Maximize button of a window, or double-clicking on the title bar while holding down the ALT key or another modifier key. This currently works in IE when using the CTRL key to switch to 'full screen' mode. Generally though I think it should just resize the window, as opposed to, like maximize, be a different state that can be 'Restored'/remembered. As I think that would be a bit confusing - ie. i choose vertical maximize, then maximize, then restore - what does it restore to? does it allow me to double-restore? Anyway you get my point. Also I wasn't able to play around with mulitple monitors on WinVI so I'm not sure if it now behaves similarly to the application Ultramon for WinXP (has another task-bar on addidtional monitors that only displays windows that are on that particular monitor - very useful for quickly finding the window you're looking for - http://www.realtimesoft.com/ultramon...t_taskbar.asp). If it does not please consider implementing it as it's very unintuitive to have additional monitors without a task-bar. You could even move the time and task-tray to the right-most monitor (ultramon cannot do this due to windows api restrictions). Looking forward to Beta2! |

| Guest | RE: Suggestion: Vertical Maximize This is a great idea, Max! I just talked to the Shell folks and they confirmed that unfortunately, due to time constraints, we have had to postpone the implementation of the feature to the next version of the OS, but it is definitely on the list for the next version Thanks again for your feedback: Ivo "max_muster" wrote: > With wide-screen displays becoming standard I would like to request a feature > that lets me maximize a window vertically only. | Guest | RE: Suggestion: Vertical Maximize Or even simpler... How about right-clicking on the maximize button for "vertical maximize" and/or double-right-clicking on the titlebar "max_muster" wrote: > It could be implemented via... > 1) a new 'Vertical Maximize' option when right-clicking on an application > task pane button (not sure what the official name is) - current options are: > Restore, Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize, Close. > 2) when clicking on the Maximize button of a window, or double-clicking on > the title bar while holding down the ALT key or another modifier key. | Guest | RE: Suggestion: Vertical Maximize Yep, the feature request is already in our database for v.next. The UI designers will be looking for the best way to implement it (if it gets approved for v.next) and they will consider your suggestion below. Thanks and keep the feedback coming!
