Vista - learning material on WPF..

HI,
What is windows presentation foundation. Is it same as GDI..Where can i
get learning material about WPF? Any links would be greatful..

It's a whole new platform. Think Internet Explorer renderer technology, only
instead of HTML and Javascript you will use XAML and C#, and it's geared
more for Windows applications than for web sites (although I have a feeling
web sites running on XAML will be all over the web in five years). It also
integrates 3D and multimedia into the same engine.

Thanks..I was just thinking its extension of GDI or DirectDraw..
Is this technology work win xp or is it supported only on vista...
Actually why do we use WPF? I mean whats are its applications and
advantages over existing technlogies..

WPF will support Windows XP SP2, Windows Server 2003 SP1, Vista and later.
WPF (Avalon) is built on top of DirectX and my understanding is it will deprecate
GDI. So as of this moment in Microsoft history, this is the next generation
way of building a Windows application.
