WPF and Remote Desktop

Does anyone know if WPF is going to be rendered with bitmaps via RDP (same
way it currently is in XP) or if it'll just send the visual tree over (that
was originally the plan for Vista, or so I read somewhere, but that was when
Aero was supposedly going to be written in Avalon)

This is the last I heard about it...

[Brian Madden] The big question is "will WPF Remoting be released with Longhorn?"
Previously we thought this answer was "yes." However, when the question was
asked, “What support will Longhorn Terminal Services provide for Avalon-based
applications?” The response given was,

[Tad Brockway] Yes, we are working to support Aero-Glass via RDP, when connecting
from a Vista client. …. We have more work to do and we haven't yet targeted
a specific release vehicle.

[Brian Madden] Based on this answer it doesn’t sound like the WPF Remoting
capability will be released with Longhorn as was originally thought. Perhaps
it will arrive later in the form of a Service Pack?

Re: WPF and Remote Desktop

Shame it's only for Vista, as it seems like all you really need is .Net 3.0
to run it. Would make for a neat home project, though (although I had a big
fat zero amount of luck writing an RDP client a while back for some
diagnostic purposes)

Re: WPF and Remote Desktop

WPF and Aero primitive level remoting will be supported on Vista (note that
support depends on the SKU).

Aero glass leverages some new capabilities that are only available from
Vista graphics device drivers. Therefore we were not able to make Aero glass
available on XP clients.

Primitve remoting downlevel for WPF is doable and that is certainly
something we will be looking into moving forward.

Re: WPF and Remote Desktop

Is there a way to see this in action on RC1 or RC2?

Remote desktop with Vista on both sides does not appear to remote WPF or
Aero for me, although I do notice the new option for 32 bit colour.
