Change brightness/contrast of images

Hi,
Are there APIs available for changing brightness/contrast and other such
properties of images ?
Or, do I have to manually deal with the pixels that make up the image ?

I know there's an opacity property for the Image object. But, I specifically
wanted brightness and contrast.

Raghavendra.
