January CTP and PresentationFramework.<theme> hooks

Could someone explain the process whereby the CTP chooses which theme
(January is including Luna, Aero, Royale, and Classic) to use when an app
launches? My desktop, while not a Media Center PC, uses the Royale theme,
but the hacktacular way in which I installed it must not flip some flag
somewhere to tell Avalon I'm using Royale (maybe it reports it as "Energy
Blue"?)
