Why don't any of the 3D samples compile?

Why don't any of the 3D samples compile?

I realize that the readme lists each of the 3D samples which won't compile
(which happens to be all of them), but it would be really nice if there were
at least a couple out there that worked. I'm just looking for the basic
viewport stuff.

Anyone else got samples posted on another site or something. I'm an old
DirectAnimation buff, and am itching to get back into it. Actually, I would
say about 90% of the WPF 3d looks just like DA. We should call it Lazarus,
or DirectAnimation resurrected ...
