DataGrid sample in WinFX SDK?

What happened to the sample of the WPF Datagrid that was on the MSDN
WinFX site? I downloaded each individual file last week (I started
directly with Visual Studio 2005 and the November CTP of WinFX, so I
never got the WinFX beta SDK with its samples). However I may have
missed a file or two and now the datagrid sample doesn't seem to be
accessible:
http://winfx.msdn.microsoft.com/libr...c4c3c559ce.asp

Any ideas?
Jason

Re: DataGrid sample in WinFX SDK?

Hi Jason,

The DataGrid sample has been removed because it was very broken. We're in
the process of updating it and hope that it will be available again in a
future release.

Sorry for any inconvenience,
Tina

Thanks Tina, Had it always been broken, or is it only broken now when
running with the November WinFX CTP? I've downloaded each source file
and spent a while trying to make it work with no avail. I'm now trying
to build up my own grid using only the pieces that I need for that
example.

Is there a reason why WPF does not come with a DataGrid? This certainly
couldn't be by design could it? An oversight, or something that just
hasn't been developed yet?

Regards,
Jason

Re: DataGrid sample in WinFX SDK?

The DataGrid sample was broken before the Nov CTP.

A WinForms-like DataGrid is not in our V1 plan for WPF.

Thanks, and let us know if you have other questions,
Tina

Hello Tina,

Why a WinForms-like DataGrid is not in your plan for WPF 1.0 ?

For ISV like us, it's a very important component... and it could help us to
adopt WPF.

Re: DataGrid sample in WinFX SDK?

Thanks for your feedback, we've always thought of data grid as an important
control but it's nice to hear you confirm that thinking. While Microsoft
doesn't plan to write a data grid in the WPF V1 timeframe, we're working
with component vendors to ensure a vibrant set a third party components for
WPF, and we expect that data grids will be among the most popular offerings.
Infragistics for example announced its DataPresenter for WPF at the PDC (I
understand they're putting together some form of CTP program for their
components, might want to contact them if you're interested). We'll also
keep your feedback in mind when we begin planning future versions of WPF.
Thanks.

Re: DataGrid sample in WinFX SDK?

I would be happy with a ListBox that contains editable items. If this is
possible, an example showing how to do it would be helpful.

Re: DataGrid sample in WinFX SDK?

What do you mean by editable items? You can easily add a TextBox that's
bound to an item in the ListBox and when the text is changed, the item
changes.

I mean embedding ones or more text boxes or other editable controls directly
in the ListBox item. It seems to work at a crude level, but I'm not clear
on how to fiddle with the styles so that the selected item's child controls
look editable while the unselected ones don't. There is also routing the
events so that the ListBoxItem is selected when one of it's children gets
focus. There's also tab handling.

Maybe I'm just to lazy to figure it our on my own and would like to see an
official example
