semi-modal dialog box

we are trying to do a semi modal dialog box. For example - if you
think of the application as consisting of two sections, then a modal
dialog box displayed in response to an event triggered from section
one, would disable section one but still let us work on /edit section
two and visa versa.

Have you seen this before? your ideas /thoughts on how we could do
this?

Re: semi-modal dialog box

Can you just use a modeless dialog, but disable the toplevel element of
section one when your dialog is displayed, and then re-eanble it when
the dialog is dismissed?
