Got SP1 today. Haven't been able to download a program off the net since. Says my current security settings won't allow. Have tried putting sites in trusted zone(lowest security setting), allowed cookies, turned off protected mode. Nothing seems to work. Tried to get firefox. won't let me. Also is there any way to shut off all the warnings at the top of the page. They are more annoying than the popups. I don't need a babysitter, I need a web browser.

btw, vista 32 premium

Gary,

Not sure why SP1 affected IE, but you can try to reset IE using these steps:

start>control panel>network & internet>internet options>advanced tab>click reset

This will restore the original settings in IE.

I hope this helps.

Tried that, but it didn't help. I still get the same warning.

I have a similar problem. I posted it in another thread too, but I thought maybe it really belongs over here. Please delete if needed.

I have a brand new computer with Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I had no problem downloading my programs using the real CDs, but when I try to download any programs from the internet (Itunes, Adobe Reader, Windows Live Messenger, anything at all) first I have to approve the download because apparently *everything* is from an unverified publisher. Then, after waiting for the download, a window pops up that says the program stopped running, will be closed, and Windows will notify me if a solution is found. There is no icon is on my desktop, no program when I check my Programs folder, nothing to right-click and choose Properties.

This is the error that pops up:View attachment 3187
I was able to successfully download the Vista Service Pack, and I've tried to get the Windows updates. Most of them have downloaded successfully.

The other problems I've had are that the K9 protection doesn't work (it was installed two days ago at someone else's house.) The program opens normally and says it is active, but it doesn't block any webpages, even if I put them in the "Always Block" list. The other problem is that I can't change the tint of the translucent Aero windows. Following the instructions on how to arrange the settings doesn't work, I never get the "Window Color and Appearance" window, I always get the "Appearance Settings" dialog box instead. Also Flash player never seems to install even though I approve it on almost every webpage I visit ...

Those problems aren't a big deal to me right now, I just list them in case they may be related to the internet download issue.

Right now, everything I do is on the administrator account. ClamWin had been installed, but I uninstalled it to see if that would help. It didn't. There isn't any other virus software installed other than what comes with Windows. I disabled the Windows firewall.

What should I do? Any suggestions are appreciated --

I kept playing around trying to figure it out. Had changed so many setting I couldn't remember which ones any more. So hit the reset button again and low and behold everything works again. Don't know why it didn't work the first time, but glad it worked the second time.

What I finally did was to install Firefox from a CD. Then I was able to download most programs. Others still come up with a different error. So I've been downloading some to CDs on my laptop and installing on the new computer from there. I'm glad you found something that worked for you.
