Browsers don't connect, Messenger can't sign in...

i have a big problem. It has made me reformat 4 times now. Here's the problem:
I bought new components and installed Vista Business 64bit, and everything worked fine, but then all of a sudden my browsers stop connecting (IE7 says "waiting for reply from www.google.com"), MSN messenger and Xfire can't sign in, none of my programs can update (including Windows Update), also, uTorrent can seed, but cannot update trackers. Oh, and i can ping any IP or site i want. Also, immediatly after Windows starts, i get a couple of seconds of everything working (Messenger and Xfire sign in, browser works,..., so it seems like whatever is causing my problem has to load itself and it doesn't do it while Windows is booting. One more thing, if i go into Safe Mode with networking, my connection works fine.
Please help if you can.

nevermind, it was utorrent that was causing all of this.
now ive got to find a new torrent client as good as utorrent :(

The problem with torrent clients on Vista is they use too many half-open connections...In utorrent change the advanced setting net.max_halfopen from 8 to 4 and it should fix the browser problems...

After changing that setting and its still having problems check the network device manager settings and turn off anything with offload.

Let me know how it go`s...

tnx for the tip dmex, but i found a tcpip.sys crack that lifts the maximum number of half-open connections in vista and it runs without any hassle.

Yeah I know the patch, you might find it works less than before with some applications.

do u know of any other tips that wouldn't lower my UL/DL speed?

Did you try turning off the extra offload stuff under your LAN adapter in device manager?

where can i find the network device manager? do u mean the regular device manager? cuz theres nothing in there containing "offload"

Hey,

Find Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager then select Network Adapters and your LAN device.

If your LAN adapter has any offload settings similar to the ones below make sure they are all Disabled, sometimes also checking for a modem firmware update can help more than anything Vista could do.
