Internet Connection/HTTP Problems (Weird)

My Grandad recentley bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro, which came with Wireless Network Capabilities and Windows Vista, for a few months the laptop worked perfectley and ran IE, Firefox, WLM etc. with no problems whatsover.

I came over to visit my Grandad this weekend, and found that his laptop no longer connects to the internet properley (and he assures me he hasn't changed any settings). Weridley though it STILL connects to the Messenger Service used by WLM and I can still send and recieve IM's, yet I cannot surf the web (which is odd because as far as I know from client programming, WLM partly uses HTTP Protocol) :sarc:.

When I 'Diagnose Connection Problems' This is what I get

Policy Provider: -
Filter Name: VSWFP_LAYER_ALE_AUTH_CONNECT_V4

I googled this and came up with no worthwhile results, all your help would be GREATLY appreciated (for it is frustrating for me as well as him), thanks

Additionally, Windows Firewall is turned off, and AVG is being used.

Ok, I have been doing alot of research into this...

I tryed to run GPEDIT (To edit Group Policys) but only Vista Ultimate comes with GPEDIT (Yet the .DLL is still included for no good reason), I ran GPUPDATE which gave me no results

I also turned off User Account Control, once again with no result.

I then created a new user accounts (user & administrator) to see if I could browse the web (but once again the same policy settings still applied) and I had no luck.

I have tried everything suggested in Windows Help, (which seems to go on the assumption that everyone uses Vista Ultimate), and still no good outcome!

I have also noticed that Zonealarm is running, and is under the Windows Firewall tab, yet I cannot turn it off, or find it in program files =/

I'm getting pretty desperate now, I don't want to install Vista again for my Grandad has alot of files on here and it would take alot of time to back them all up.

Anyone have some ideas yet?

Cheers
