Help with Windows Mail - 0x800CCC0F. PLEASE!!

    Hi,

My ISP is Sky. We can log onto Sky and get e-mails but for about 10 months we have linked everything through Windows Mail as it is easier to use. We have never had any problems.

During the last few days we have started to have issues with the receipt of mail. We can send mail but not receive it. If we go on Sky Mail however the e-mails are there.

I have checked all settings and they seem ok. This is the error message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Server: 'pop.tools.sky.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I have searched for information and tried various things but still nothing works. Can anyone help????????

    Thanks

Sounds like it is happening to everyone!

Thought it might be something to do with Norton 360 but sounds more likely that it is something that SKY have or are doing!

On Norton 'Help' it takes you through a process to switch off firewall, scoll down to Window Mail on Programmes and change from 'Block' or 'Custom' to 'Allow'.
Tried all this but it still does not work.

    Re: Help with Windows Mail

Well, I don't have Norton or Sky and for the past few days, I have had problems getting on my Bellosuth account through Windows Mail but if I boot with my XP and hit my Outlook, I get my messages instantly.

Something tells me that Windows Mail is the one with the problem but I don't check my personal e-mail account that much so I have not bother checking into it.

    Re: Help with Windows Mail

i think it is your ISP's fault. check out this KB article:

Error message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection

if you have increased your bandwidth usage, some ISP's put you on a leash. i found out the hard way (2yr agreement) if i exceed a certain limit, my throughput dips below 14.4bps for 24hrs. check with customer service to see if they allow more usage during certain times. mine is 2am to 5am, so i save all my downloading until then.

    Re: Help with Windows Mail

Hi everyone, I have been searching support functions for hours and I have finally got Windows Mail to work.

Go into Windows Mail, then tools, then accounts.

Select your POP account and then the 'servers' tab.

For incoming mail, mine said "pop.tools.sky.com"

I have just changed this to "pop.googlemail.com", selected 'apply' and all my incoming messages have come through within seconds.

I have no idea why this has worked, just glad it has!!

    Hi,

    Another update.

If changing settings to googlemail does not help, sounds like Sky are having real problems. They have posted another news item within their support centre so keep watching.....
