Internet Connects, but not To Websites

I have Vista Home Edition Premium 64x. I has worked fine for two months. Just recently, I cannot use the internet or play online games. I primarily use wireless but use DSL. I am able to see wi-fi networks and connect (DSL shows a connection too), but unable to load any web pages. I uninstalled Norton. Dropped all the firewalls for Windows. But still, I cannot load any web pages. WOW cannot connect. Bittorrent cannot connect. Firefox or IE cannot either. I searched all over Vista (I'm new to it) and found no settings that would makes sense to adjust for the problem. I looked at these forums and found no solutions to similar problems (Are these people trashing their Vista?). I finally had to partition the drive and install Suse Linux 11.1 to just get to this site try to find an answer. Being that Linux has no problem with wi-fi or DSL and loading web pages, I know it's not a bios or hardware problem. I know it's Vista.

What is wrong with Vista, because I never changed any network settings while using it? Is there a way to restore the network part of the Vista package without having to purchase Vista again? Vista came installed so I dont' have a instal disk. All my restore points seemed to be corrupted with this problem. What can I do?

Thanks for the reply, I hope this all leads to a solution.

Yes, the network icon is enabled, like the one in your pic. I can choose a wi-fi connection and it will connect. Although, when the browser launches, the browswer is unable to load my home page. I try other pages to no avail.

A little more info. I booted in safe mode (hold the F8 key at boot). The icon looks the same. But one thing is different, it brings up no list of wireless signals. I thought his may be a dependency probem, so I went to "Connect To" in the Start menu. But no signals were found with that window either.

1. Your connected to the internet!
2. You have taken off AV and firewall to make sure there is nothing between computer and internet!
3. You probably have a VIRUS.

Go to Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab download scanner and kill off all viri found. Then reinstall your own av/firewall and try again...

Downloaded that virus program. Tried to install it, but Norton 360 blocks it. I've already uninstalled Norton, but won't remove itself from install programs. Keeps saying the files specified at the path don't exist. I tried all my restore points. Norton will not dissapear. I killed several Symantec processes, then tried to run the virus program. I removed Norton from start up ups. Still, the virus program is being blocked. There has to be some area of the computer that says it still exists. How do I remove it? Norton did act like it uninstalled itself.

This would be a whole lot easier if Microsoft would just put a $5 dollar dvd in their packaging. I would have paid 5 more dollars to avoid all of this by just reinstalling. If it were not for Linux, I would not even be communicating on the net right now. This is how debilitating the $5 dollar dvd is. Perhaps they do it on purpose? Just to create unneccesary work for people.

If you are being blocked to go to Kaspersky and you cannot remove yourm present AV you have a Virus that controls pretty much everything.
Try this as last resort...
Boot into Safe mode with networking
try again to get Kaspersky online...
If you can't, well?
thats it from me...

By the way knocking MS when it has no relation to your problem seems to defeat the object!

Selling a product known to be attacked by viruses, but not giving the buyer the power to restore that product to original state for a simple 5$ dvd shipped, shows intent to profit unfairly. One has to go buy Vista twice. $$$MicrosoftProfit$$$ One may need to seek out Microsoft Techs to pay. $$$MircorsoftProfit$$$ All because they don't want to send a 5$ dvd that no one would mind buying. Apple sends a DVD with their computers, I hate them, but atleast they do that. I didn't knock MS, I read between the lines. They knocked themselves.
