I get this literally every time i surf the net for a while. basically IE gives that message and then kills the internet, firefox does not work either.

there is nothing wrong with the TCP/IP as i can ping the sites no problem.

only method of fix rite now is to restart, but that is unrealistic and just a work-around.

Running :

Vista Business x64 SP2

in response to your second comment, you had only posted 14 minutes before, sometimes it takes a little while ;).

Now as far as your problem, are you 100% sure that your internet service isn't being temporarily dropped, or you're having a conflict from your router? also, is there anything in particular you're doing when you lose your browsing capabilities?

To me it seems like an overzealous/incompatible antivirus/firewall program. Some AV and firewalls do have known compatability issues with vista, and it kind of sounds like that's what you're experiencing.

Personally I use Symantec Antivirus Corporate edition on vista ultimate x64 absolutely no problems. Not that i necessarily advocate the program, it just works for me.
