Add-Ons Disabled

I am running a Vista HP 32-bit machine with IE7. Lately, I have had a vexing problem arise. Whenever I follow a link in an e-mail (from Windows Mail or Thunderbird), IE opens with the warning "IE is operating with Add-Ons Disabled." If I go to Tools, the "Manage Add-ons" link is disabled. If I go to Internet Options and activate all the Add-Ons, when I restart IE they all go back to disabled.

If I open IE directly, everything is enabled correctly.

I have tried the MS tool to reset Add-Ons, clicked "Reset" on the Advanced Menu and other advice to no-avail.

How can I get Internet Explorer 7 to always open with Add-Ons Enabled.

Thanks,

Doug

Hello DougR,
Check that you are not accidentally using IE 7 [ No Add Ons ]
Start - Start Search, type in "Internet Explorer", click Internet Explorer.
Does it work correctly?
Post back & let us know.

Thanks for your reply.

IE works fine when I open it directly and enter a URL; the issue I have occurs only with links I follow from e-mail. I tried several links from both directions and they worked fine when entered directly and gave me the Add-Ons warning when I followed the same link in an e-mail. Very bizarre

Since my post, I rebooted several times, to no avail. Then I did a cold restart and the issue seems to have gone away. I need to give it a few days test, then we'll see if it stays solved!

Thanks again,

Doug

Doug,
Fingers crossed that it stays solved.
Have you checked that you have IE 7 & Win Mail or Thunderbird set as your default programs?
[ Control Panel - Programs - Default Progs - Set Default Progs.[& possibly Choose defaults for this program.]
Let us know how it goes.
