Internet issue (local connection )

I have Vista home basic 32bit And I am connected to DSL via ethernet (wired).
About a week ago I stared having a issue that my browsers would stop working(both firefox and internet explorer)I would get the typical error saying the connection has been reset. My modem was showing that I am connected tho.

At the same time my AIM messenger was working fine I was still connected and able to send and receive messages.I tried to reset my modem that didn't work.So I restarted my pc and that seemed to fix it.
This has continued to happen daily now usually around the same timeframe too.

I have scanned my pc with avast, super anti spyware and malwarebytes and they haven't found anything wrong.I tried disabling my firewal (pc tools firewalls plus) that didn't work.I read that zonealarm could cause this issue and i had it in the past but it's been long uninstalled.
The last thing i tried was i disabled avast web scanner and i reset the TCP/IP Winsock. And again it didn't work.

Could anyone shed some light on what the issue may be.. having to restart often is getting a tad annoying.

Thanks.

How strange that you couldn't access web pages, but you could use AIM. Although, that would use a different port.

Open a command prompt and try pinging an ip address.

C: ping "www.yahoo.com" (without the quotes)

Was is successful?

C: ping 128.163.1.6

successful?

Update your network card to the newest driver.

Run C: ipconfig /all > config.txt

upload config.txt to us here.

first we need to have you to fill in yoursystem specs (lower left corner of your posts) so we know what hardware you have.

We also need to know what wifi/lan card you have and how your network is setup.

Right now I can.I pinged yahoo before when i couldn't use the browsers and it was successful with no packet loss either. It's usually around 11pm to 3am when this happens.I have to the best of my knowledge no processes scheduled to run at that time.
Im stumped..could this be Verizon sending something through the modem at the time that could do it? Vista automatically detects internet connection right? So maybe it messes it up somehow..

Are you set up to automatically assign an IP address or did you assign your machine an IP?

If its not set up to automatically assign one, lets do that now to see if it fixes the issue.

Click on the start orb, in the search box type: ncpa.cpl then hit enter

Right click the connection your currently using and choose properties, accept the UAC prompt

In the 'Networking' tab of the window that just opened find the IPv4 option. Highlight it, then click 'Properties' on the bottom.

Then make sure the 'Obtain an IP address automatically' option is bubbled. If it isn't please bubble it.

Disconnect from all networks, then reconnect to your home network (or whichever one has the issue) and see if the problem is resolved.

Please post back the results.

It actually went into "local access only"as soon as i began to check it.

The IPv4 is checked and the Obtain an IP address automatically is checked.

I went back to my connection and it said disconnected (i have AIM ruining fine yet again)
I right clicked to connect..it connected and then gave me a error saying it could not connect to the remote computer? Im guessing to Verizon.
It said to redial or cancel.
I hit cancel and im apparently connected at the moment "local and internet" So with a error saying im not connected and then it is anyway im officially stumped.

Hmm.. I'm stumped then. Because my issue was an outdated router firmware version...

In the device manager (start search type device then choose device manager, accept the UAC) Are you displaying any gray arrows or yellow triangles under network adapters?

So your saying that when the computer tells you your disconnected everything still works but IE and FF??
