IE takes forever to load, browse

I was having so much trouble with IE loading (it took minutes not seconds) that I switched to Foxfire in the summer. However I still have to use IE for certain client sites. It was taking forever to load but then seemed OK. Now not only does it take several minutes to load it also has a very slow response time when I click on anything. Sometimes I have to click on a web page menu item twice just to get it to recognize I clicked. It's not my mouse/touchpad. It's not my internet connection (blazing fast on another). I have tried so many tools/checkers. I've deleted cookies, files, history. I've deselected all add-ons. Just to click on HOME takes forever to be recognized that I even selected it.

It gets worse. I can't even uninstall IE7. It's not under the control panel as a program OR not listed as a an update. I've tried going to MS website to try a fresh download but can only get a download for XP (I have Vista). Does anyone have any links?

Any help appreciated!

Thanks for trying to help. I tried resetting - no luck. I disabled DEP - no luck. I tried installing IE 8 using the link you provided and got the message "This installation does not support your system architecture (32/64 bits).

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Well....the only version of IE8 I was able to install was 64 bit. Not sure about that but it installed OK. The only thing is that it isn't any better. SLOW as anything to open, then equally as slow to load a page. I'm using Firefox for everything I can since it is super fast to load pages, however I have some client sites that I have to use IE. It is really slowing down my work to have IE be so incredibly slow. I can't imagine what the problem is.

I wish my clients' sites were compatible with Foxfire and my problem would be solved.

I'm still open to suggestions.

If you have the 64-bit Vista, then you would have had to install the IE8 for the 64-bit Vista. That's all. In 64-bit Vista you have both a 32-bit (default) IE (Program Files (x86)) and a 64-bit IE (Program Files) version.

As a test run the 64-bit version IE and the IE No Add-on (shortcut in Start Menu) versions to see how they may run.

Yes, definitely try running IE in no add-ons mode. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) to see if one is causing the problem. If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and change the Show setting on the left to All Add-ons, then select all of the add-ons listed and click Disable All. You can then enable the add-ons one by one to find which one is causing the problem.
Or, if you have any add-ons with a large load time (more than .2 seconds) enabled, you may want to disable them and see if that helps with your loading issue. Just go to Tool->Manage Add-ons to do this.
Hope that helps.

Guys I'm no expert but I had identical problem. Firefox works fine then randomly stops altho it is still running in Task mgr. Cant close the process down from there and have to reboot. Problem got worse over a couple of weeks and was happening every time - also happened with IE 8 and Opera, nad in thelast few days if one went down the others were locked up too. I use Zone Alarm - have done for years with XP without a hitch. I couldn't find anything anywhere online that helped - but I eventually found a suggestion that I change to another Firewall. I switched to PC Tools Firewall and (for the last two days at least) not a problem. Both Firefox and IE seem to be working perfect. Hope that helps - cos I know how frustrated I was getting. If it doesn't work at least it shouldnt cause any more problems, and even a non techie like me can try this. Good luck.
