When I click on a click in a message in my windows mail, I get the message
that this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set association control panel.
Can someone help me, walk me through this step by step?

Set your default program
Associate a file type with a program
Change auto play settings
set computer access and computer defaults

Where do I go from here?

Ok, I'm sorry, I wrote the problem wrong. It's showing the error message when I click on the http:// link in the message I'm trying to read. My associations for windows mail (.eml) are set correctly.

Go back to the association information. Click on the last column (the names of the programs), to bring into alphabetical order, you will see about 3 or 4 relating to Windows Mail. What informaton do you see?

I was looking for the associations for the above (eg emi.) I was going to compare to my setup to insure accuracy. According to your initial problem that is what has to be corrected.

If we cannot get it to work using this procedure. I suggest that you unistall and then install again. If the mail client never worked properly, it is a bad installation. Probably the easiest way would be to start over.

NOTE, before attempting anything of this nature, make a system restore back up. We can always go back if things get worse.

IAfter that is correct make sure that you picked the mail server of your choice as default.

In fact do that now, pick your mail client as default.

.eml Windows Mail E-Mail Messgage Windows Mail

.news Windows Mail E-Mail Messgage Windows Mail

Those are the only "Extentions" I have found. Since you said there would be 3 or 4 Im assuming that I'm missing some.

When you set up the email as default, or you have problems doing it, post. I will return soon afterward.

If everything has been set up the way we discussed, this last step should insure that you can read your mail.

On top of windows mail click tools.....options.....read.....Read in plain text should not be checked. This should do it.
