IE8 slow after installing Vista SP2

Can anyone tell me how to fix this. I'm running Vista 32 bit on a Sony Vaio and it wouldn't recognise my Creative Zen Vision M. I read that installing SP1 and SP2 would fix the problem (it didn't) but since installing SP2 it now takes minutes to connect to the internet and IE8 is now generally very slow. BTW, if any clever person out there can tell me how to get my PC to recognise my Zen Vision M on the USB port and how to get Media Player V11 to sync with my Zen I'd be grateful.
So much for ditching my reliable old desktop which used to do everything ye goode olde way, at least it worked.

Try fixing this problem by troubleshooting it with Add-ons disabled - IEBlog : Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode
You can also reset IE 8's settings by going to Tools > Internet Options, then the 'Advanced' tab, and then clicking the 'Reset...' button. That may work.

I hope at least some of this info helps,
