    Setting up Windows Mail

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition X64 bit OS. How can I set up my Windows Mail to automatically receive incoming messages? At present I have to manually select SEND/RECIEVE to be able to load any incoming messages. My system used to work automatically, but I had to take my PC top the shop for repairs, and when I got it back the automatic feature was no longer there. Thanks for your help.

    Welcome

Try this, go to search, type default

In default set the Windows Mail provider as the default.

    TY for the rep Alvin.

    Did my suggestion work?

If it did post and you will be helping others.

If it did not, post, and then I and the other Memebers can continue to try and find a solution.

No I am sorry to say your suggestion did not work. I still have to manually load any mail I might have, whereas its used to load automatically.

OK, tell me if this idea works for you. Back up all your mail. Go to control panel, uninstall windows essentials (mail application) or windows live (dependng upon which shows). Then download a new application.

If you agree. Make a system restore point first, in case of problems.

    Re: Setting up Windows Mail

Hi, I don't have Windows Essentials anymore, as I found it conflicted with my virus protection program & I un-installed it. There must be a button somewhere in the Windows Mail realm that is unchecked so that it will not automatically deliver new mail? I don't know just speculating. All I know is that is used to work. Thanks again for your interest in my problem.

    Re: Setting up Windows Mail

The first thing that I thought of was looking for a box (like you mention) and could not find one. I have Windows Live Mail (part of windows essentials). Howver, I think that the problem or resolution will be the same for WLM and WM. I will keep looking.

    Re: Setting up Windows Mail

    Im back.

    Try this

Tools>options>Check for new messages every 5 minutes>if computer is not connected do not connect.

That is how mine is set up. Lets see if that helps.
