Unable To Install IE8

Install of IE8 fails while installing language packs.

I have tried following Microsoft's solutions but nothing has worked.

OS = Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit, Service Pack 2.

Did your try installing in Safe Mode, with firewall and Anti Virus off?

To use an IE8 language pack, the same language pack (the one for the OS) must already be installed on the OS Download details: Internet Explorer 8 Language Packs for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Except for Ultimate and Enterprise, Vista only allows ONE language pack installed on the OS (I don't mean a second pack - I mean the language on the system itself). So if you are trying to add a language pack to IE8 in Vista Home Premium that is not the one language pack installed with the operating system, then this will not be permitted and the installation will not be successful.

If you want this option, you need to upgrade to Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise and get the appropriate language packs for the operating system and install them before installing the IE8 language packs OR get a version of Vista Home Premium with the one language pack that you wish to use with IE8 configured in a specific language, OR try a product like: Vistalizator - change display language in Windows Vista and Windows 7 which will give you some limited ability to change language packs in Home Premium (if you try this, be sure to check the limitations and whether or not the language you want is supported - this is a 3rd party product so try and use it at your own risk - I'm not 100% it will work in this scenario).

If you install IE8 without language packs then you should be fine and have no problems. If you try the above process to add language packs to Home Premium, you may still be limited to only the active language pack - I'm not sure how IE8 will integrate with OS language packs installed using this method (it may work fine or it may still not install as I've never tried to do this).

I hope this helps (or at least explains).

Good luck!

Thanks rich46 and Lorien,

I have tried the safe mode option, but will try again to ensure virus stuff is off.

How do I install with no language packs, as the normal MS download does not seem to allow for a custom install.

Here is how/where to download IE8 for your specific location (if in a country that speaks a foreign language, choose a country instead that speaks your language) and is consistent with your operating system. Just choose the options and a download box should open. Internet Explorer 8: Worldwide sites. I don't see where language packs are required (they weren't when I upgraded to IE8 on my system).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Sorry for delay.

Tried safe mode and no firewall, removed language pack stuff from IE7 installation. Neither worked.

Thanks for trying and please post any new ideas.

I'm not sure I understand the issue at this point. You have a site where you can download IE8 without language packs. You said the problem was with language packs and you now have a way to download without them so that should no longer be a problem. What happens when you try to download and install the plain IE8 without language packs? How does the installation fail? When does the installation fail? What error messages does it give exactly word-for-word?

Thanks!

No error message was actually displayed, I was just told that the install had failed.

The download came from http://extras.uk.msn.com/internet-explorer-8/

I have, however, given up on IE8 and downloaded IE9 Beta. This worked fine (so far).

Thanks for all your help.
