Two iexplore.exe Processes

My system has been really, really slow the last few days. So I brought up Task Manager to take a look earlier. I noticed that iexplore.exe appeared twice. I understand that this indicates a malware/spyware issue. Both were running at about 65,000 K. But after restarting, I only see one (for now.)

Another issue has been explorer.exe because it appeared, with about 75,400 K earlier. Right now it's down to 16,768 K. I am not sure if these two problems are related.

Both the iexplore.exe processes led to the same file: Internet Explorer of course. (Right now iexplore is running at 92,500 K.)

Is there a malware involved here and how can I get rid of it?

Thanks, I will try that.

Forgot to mention, Task Manager states:

Physical memory (MB)

Total 2045
Cached 1398
Free 1

Meanwhile my 'computer' says I have "43.3 GB"

Not sure what that means..

Ok, so I did as you advised. For the most part there wasn't a big difference between them. I saw that I have three processes running by Symantec (Norton Anti-Virus) even though I stopped using Norton several months ago.

There is also this: ICDSPTSC Sony SPTI Service for DVE Properties (Local Computer). Info says the service depends on the following compenents: Remote Procedure Call (RPC). I do not know what this is for.

But there were two that I did notice a difference with. The first one (stllsvr) especially:

stllsvr - Microvision Development Inc.
XAudio - Service Conexant Systems Inc.

I've been looking them up online but can't find out what either one is for. No one seems to be sure. Should I remove them or are they something important?

Went back to Task Manager and selected "show processes from all users" and I see there are currently a total of twelve processes running called "svchost.eve"! Most have an average of 1,000 K. One has 52,000K and rising..located in Windows - System32.

If you ran the antivirus and malwarebytes and came up ok; should not be a problem

Well, one thing I didn't mention is that Windows Update doesn't work. Last Christmas (ironically) I got an infection after downloading a file from a Microsoft website. I got this downloader malware that downloaded all kinds of other adware and viruses onto my computer. It took me ten days, working morning to night, to finally fix the problem. People on this site and others were assisting me, but the problem was new so getting help was slow.

I did a lot of research in deleting certain files, and took a couple chanes in removing some infected ones. I fixed the problem but afterwards Windows Update would never work for me. I've also had trouble updating flash software, etc.

Sorry, I missed your post somehow
Go to search
type cmd
right click when it shows on top and click run as adminsitrator
In cmd type sfc /scannow
Then if errors run 3 more times.
Then if still errors post the .cbs .log

When you run sfc/scannow at the end it will save a log with about a 1000 pages:sarc:, to get it/view it go cmd>run as admin>sfcdetails.txt and hit enter. (short way, may not work)

Or cmd>run as administrator >{type} notepad C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log hit enter *note* theres a space between notepad and C

I tried running the "findstr" program but it would not run. So I followed indianacarnie's instructions to get the whole notepad document. I'm not sure how much of this you need, so I'l just post the bottom part (the only part that includes the word "error.") If you need me to post more I can.

POQ 49 ends.

My massive wifi antenna is in the post!
I have had the same problem with internet explorer. It relaunches itself and slows down my comp and I hear what sounds like a commercial. I go to task manager to turn one of them off and 90% of the time it's the one I'm using cause I have to guess which one to turn off. It annoys me to no end cause now I have to launch IE from the start again after turning both of them off. I am going to try the above mentioned fix.

Hi Neurolanis,

What is the current update state of your system? The indication from the above quote is you are only on Vista without any updates. Is that true?

I would suggest you start the update process & get to SP2 plus ASAP.
