Can't see Favorites in IE9

Had to work on a computer running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit that had a virus recently. I got rid of the virus and the system runs fine.

But, here's where the problem lies ..... When the user runs IE9, she can't see her Favorites whether she goes to the Favorites bar or click on the star to view hervorits. However, her favorites do appear when viewed in Windows Explorer (C:\Users\(username)\Favorites).

I am wondering how do I get those same favorites to appear when she runs IE9 and goes to the Favorites bar or clicks on the star to view her favorites. I did create a shortcut on her desktop so she can access them via Windows Explorer as a short term fix until I find something better. There's lots of bookmarks and I just hope I don't have to recreate them all in IE9.

Hi RD

Welcome to the Forum

Try this first :
Press the Windows key + R key,
or click Start Menu and then click Run.
Copy and paste the following into the text field of Run,
and press Enter.

C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Options_RunDLL 7

Alternatively :
Click Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Folder Options -> and then the View Tab.
Scroll down and check the option Show hidden files and folders.
Then click Apply and OK.

(It could be that de virus changed the attribute of the Favorites to Hidden)
Now check whether you can see the Favorites.
If this fails, we can try something else.

Hope this helps

Below is a Registry entry that controls the display of the Favorites in IE.

Key :
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Name (Value name) = Favorites

Data (Value data) = %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

If this value is missing from the Registry, then the favorites are not displayed in IE.
You can use the attached reg file to add these values to the Registry.
I advise you strongly to first create a Restore Point before you run the file.
Click Favorites.reg, and confirm with Yes.
Please let us know how it went.
